Structural GRP flooring panels

GRP flooring panels for industrial floors and work platforms

d2 Dura Slab is a system of pultruded GRP flooring panels for structural floors, walkways, cable trough covers and access covers. The panels combine high load capacity with low weight and are a long-life alternative to heavy concrete and steel solutions, as well as plywood floors with a limited service life. The low self-weight simplifies transport, installation and future inspections, while the solid, anti-slip surface provides a safe and hard-wearing solution in demanding environments. Load capacity, span and fire classification vary by panel type and must be verified against current technical data and the specific project conditions.Explore d2 Dura SlabRequest technical advice

Structural GRP flooring

A low self-weight alternative to concrete, steel and plywood

d2 Dura Slab is developed for structural floors and covers where high strength, low weight and easy access matter. The panels are used over cable troughs, service trenches and access openings, and for industrial flooring, work platforms, tank covers, bridge decks and mezzanine floors.

The high strength-to-weight ratio makes the panels easier to transport and install than many equivalent concrete or steel solutions. For inspection, cable pulling and maintenance, many panels can also be opened manually or with simple lifting aids.

Dura Slab is available with two main joint solutions. The tongue and groove connection mainly suits pedestrian loading and shorter clear spans. The heavier half-lap joint is developed for higher loading, longer spans and applications where vehicular loading may occur.

Panels are manufactured as standard in orthophthalic polyester resin. Alternative resin systems can be offered for projects with specific chemical resistance or fire performance requirements.

Tongue and groove

For walkways and shorter clear spans

Interlocking tongue and groove panels create an even, stable floor surface. The solution mainly suits pedestrian loading, work platforms and other applications with moderate loads.

Half-lap joint

For higher loading and longer clear spans

The heavier joint is designed for structural flooring, wider openings and applications where higher loads or vehicular loading have to be carried.

Benefits of d2 Dura Slab

Corrosion resistant

GRP does not rust or rot and offers high resistance to moisture, salt and many chemicals, making the panels suitable for industrial, marine and utility environments.

Low self-weight

The low weight simplifies transport, lifting and installation. Many panels can be handled by one or two people, which makes inspection and maintenance easier.

Anti-slip surface

The gritted top surface gives a low slip risk and secure grip in both dry and wet conditions.

Long service life

The panels do not normally need painting, galvanising or corrosion protection. The limited maintenance requirement can lower costs across the life of the structure.

A new generation of GRP

Four qualities that set d2 Dura Slab apart

d2 Dura Slab is part of the Dura Composites range of high-performance GRP products, engineered to combine load capacity, low weight, safe use and documented material properties.

Safer

Developed for safe walkways and work areas

d2 Dura Slab offers reaction to fire class B to EN 13501-1 and a hard-wearing gritted anti-slip surface. Testing shows the surface retains up to 97.5 per cent of its anti-slip performance after more than one million footsteps. Panels can also be supplied with secure fixings, lifting eyes and recessed sockets that limit unauthorised access to the services below.

Stronger

High load capacity in relation to weight

The pultruded construction delivers high strength and stiffness while weighing considerably less than equivalent concrete and steel solutions. Tongue and groove or half-lap joints allow the solution to be matched to the project loading, clear span and allowable deflection.

Lower carbon impact

Efficient construction and long service life

d2 Dura Slab is engineered to use material efficiently without compromising structural performance. The low weight can also reduce the need for heavy supporting structures, transport and lifting operations. Installation offcuts and end-of-life GRP can be handled through Dura Composites' reuse and material recovery routes.

Documented

Technical data for the right product choice

Product and material data are available so that panels can be compared and specified against loading, clear span and allowable deflection. This gives engineers and clients clearer evidence for choosing a safe and cost-effective solution.

Product range

d2 Dura Slab for different loads and clear spans

The range covers pultruded GRP panels for walkways, technical floors, access covers and other structures requiring high load capacity, a solid top surface and a long service life.

The right panel is selected on the basis of loading, clear span, joint type, access requirements and allowable deflection.

GRP flooring panels for industry and infrastructure

d2 Dura Slab can be used in new structures and to replace existing floors and covers. The panels are particularly suited to locations where traditional materials become heavy to handle, require extensive maintenance or are affected by corrosion.

  • Cable trough and service trench covers
  • Inspection and access covers
  • Industrial flooring
  • Work platforms
  • Tank covers
  • Surface water and drainage channels
  • Bridge decks and footbridges
  • Mezzanine floors
  • Landings and half landings
  • High-traffic public walkways
  • Commercial terraces and decking

Adapted to project requirements

Panels can be cut and adapted to project dimensions, openings and penetrations. They can also be supplied with lifting eyes, mechanical lifting arms, locking and other accessories that simplify access and safe use.

An alternative to concrete and steel

Lighter panels simplify installation and maintenance

Dura Slab combines high load capacity with considerably lower weight than many traditional flooring and cover solutions. Where concrete covers may require lifting equipment or several operatives, many GRP panels can be handled by one or two people.

This simplifies both the initial installation and recurring inspections, cable pulling and maintenance. Fewer heavy lifts can also reduce the strain on personnel and the need for specialist equipment.

GRP is not affected by corrosion in the same way as steel and does not normally need painting or galvanising. Compared with plywood, the material offers better moisture resistance and a longer expected service life in exposed environments.

Easier handling

Lower weight can reduce the need for cranes, forklifts and other heavy lifting equipment.

Faster access

Panels can be opened easily for inspection, maintenance and cable pulling.

Lower whole-life cost

A long service life and minimal maintenance can reduce costs throughout the period of use.

Environmental documentation

Life cycle data to support sustainable specification

Environmental documentation is available for several d2 Dura Slab options. The documents set out the carbon impact, material content and environmental performance across defined stages of the life cycle.

The documentation can be used for design, carbon calculations, procurement and environmental certification.

Some Dura Slab documents are self-declared environmental declarations to ISO 14021 Type II based on life cycle assessment. Always check the document type for each product before using terms such as "third-party verified EPD".

GRP recycling

Dura Composites has developed routes for handling installation offcuts and end-of-life GRP products. The material can be reused or processed into feedstock for new composite materials instead of going straight to landfill.

Fire-tested flooring for stadium seating — West Ham Stadium, London

Structural GRP flooring replaced traditional plywood in stadium seating decks, meeting requirements for both fire testing and slip resistance, while allowing the seating configuration to be changed later. The example shows GRP flooring and structural panels in practice in a public venue.
