New hybrid GRP and steel railway platform — Robroyston Station, Glasgow
Glasgow, United Kingdom
Two brand new platforms at Robroyston Station in Glasgow were built using a hybrid steel and GRP solution recommended by Dura Composites and designed to meet Network Rail's technical standards for railway infrastructure. The solution combines the load capacity of steel with the anti-slip performance and abrasion resistance of the GRP surface, which showed negligible deterioration after one million simulated footfalls in testing. The scheme was jointly funded by the city council, Network Rail and the regional transport partnership, and much of the installation was completed while the line remained operational.
Relevance for Swedish projectsThe same hybrid GRP and steel approach suits Swedish station platforms where Trafikverket, municipalities or regional transport authorities require slip resistance, low weight and minimal maintenance while keeping the line in service during construction.
