GRP STAIRS & ACCESS

GRP stairs, ladders, stepovers and ramps

Byggkomposit supplies GRP stairs, treads, access ladders, stepovers and ramps for industry, infrastructure, rail, energy and other technical environments. The solutions combine low self-weight with gritted walking surfaces, corrosion resistance and a low maintenance requirement. The design is governed by level difference, loading, available space, users and the safety requirements of the project.

FOUR PRODUCT AREAS

From single stair treads to complete access structures

Our access range covers both products that improve existing walking surfaces and complete structures for safe movement between levels.

GRP stair treads and anti-slip covers suit new and existing staircases. Access ladders provide entry to roofs, shafts and technical equipment. Stepovers create safe routes over pipework, plant and other obstacles, while ramps smooth the transition between levels.

Components can be combined with GRP profiles, grating, solid panels, handrailing, landings, gates and fixings to form a solution matched to the project.

Properties of GRP access solutions

Anti-slip walking surfaces

Gritted treads and walking surfaces give grip in dry and wet conditions. Slip requirements are assessed per environment.

Low self-weight

Low self-weight can simplify transport, handling and installation and reduce the need for heavy lifting equipment.

Corrosion resistant

GRP does not rust or rot and is used in environments with moisture, salt, weather exposure and many chemicals. Chemical resistance is verified against the actual medium.

Modular construction

Treads, profiles, handrailing, landings and fixings can be combined around the height, loading and layout of the project.

GRP STAIRS & TREADS

Anti-slip stair treads for new and existing staircases

Byggkomposit supplies both structural GRP stair treads for new structures and anti-slip stair tread covers for existing staircases in steel, timber or concrete.

Structural treads can be manufactured from open GRP grating or solid Dura Slab panels. They can be combined with structural Dura Profile sections, landings and Dura Handrail systems to form complete stair structures.

For existing staircases we offer slimline tread covers and contrasting stair nosings. Fitted over an existing load-bearing structure, they improve grip and visibility without replacing the whole staircase.

Anti-slip GRP stair tread with a clearly marked step edge

Structural stair treads

Load-bearing treads for new staircases, walkways, platforms and other access structures.

Stair tread covers

Slimline anti-slip covers for existing treads in steel, concrete, aluminium or timber.

Defined step edge

A contrasting nosing makes the edge of the tread easier to see and can reduce the risk of missteps.

Open or solid surface

Choose free-draining grating or a solid panel to suit the environment, users and project requirements.

GRP ACCESS LADDERS

Lightweight ladders for safe access to technical areas

GRP access ladders and service ladders are used to reach roofs, platforms, shafts, chambers and technical equipment.

The material combines low weight with resistance to corrosion, moisture and many chemicals. Its electrically non-conductive properties make GRP particularly relevant at power installations, switchgear rooms and other electrified environments.

Ladders can be configured for the height in question and completed with safety cages, walk-through access at the top, handrails, back protection, landings and project-specific fixings.

Electrically non-conductive

GRP does not conduct electricity, which can be an advantage around electrical installations and power plants.

Corrosion resistant

The material does not rust and suits water treatment, marine, industrial and chemically exposed sites.

Configured length

Ladder length and configuration can be adapted to the building, shaft or installation.

Added safety features

Safety cages, walk-through access, handrails, landings and other project-specific details can be added.

GRP STEPOVERS

Safe passage over pipework, plant and other obstacles

GRP stepovers create a safe route over pipe runs, bunds, conveyors, machinery and other installations that obstruct movement.

The structure is normally built from stairs, a raised landing, structural GRP profiles and handrailing. It can be configured as a straight crossing or with a turning flight where space is limited.

Each solution is sized for the height and width of the obstacle, the available space, the loading and the safety requirements of the project. Stepovers can be supplied as pre-assembled sections or as components for assembly on site.

Sized for the obstacle

Height, width, stair configuration and landing are matched to the installation being crossed.

Straight or turning

Choose a straight structure or a compact layout with a 180-degree change of direction.

Complete safety system

Treads, landings, handrailing, toe boards and gates can be combined to suit the project.

Pre-assembled or site built

The structure can be delivered in finished sections or as a system ready for assembly.

GRP RAMPS

Anti-slip ramps and smoother level changes

GRP ramps create smoother, safer routes between different levels. The range covers both complete access ramps and chamfered edging profiles for smaller changes in level.

The walking surface can be specified as open GRP grating for efficient drainage or as a solid panel where a continuous surface is required. Complete ramps can also include structural profiles, handrailing, edge protection and landings.

Gradient, width, walking surface and safety details should always be matched to the site conditions, the users and the requirements applicable to the project.

Smoother transition

The sloping surface reduces abrupt level changes between walkways, platforms and adjoining floors.

Anti-slip surface

The gritted top surface provides secure grip in both dry and wet environments.

Open or solid surface

Choose free-draining grating or a continuous solid surface to suit the users.

Complete ramp solution

Walking surface, structure, handrailing, edge protection and landings can be combined into a project-specific design.
