Environmental Policy

Concrete actions for a lower climate footprint, from material choices to delivery.

Byggkomposit supplies composite, aluminium and porcelain based solutions to industry, marine and infrastructure. Our environmental impact arises mainly in material production, transport, installation and end-of-life handling. This policy describes how we work with those areas.

1. Principles

  • We comply with applicable environmental legislation and the requirements set in our customers' projects.
  • We rely on product data and third-party verified documentation rather than general claims.
  • We avoid unverifiable wording such as environmentally friendly or maintenance free.

2. Long service life and low maintenance needs

GRP does not corrode and normally requires no painting or surface treatment in service. In many environments this gives a long technical service life and a lower maintenance need than steel and timber, which reduces resource use over time. Actual service life depends on environment, loads, installation and care, and is stated per product and application.

3. Environmental data and documentation

  • Our suppliers provide EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) to EN 15804 for several product groups.
  • Products are assessed in Byggvarubedömningen where such an assessment has been carried out.
  • We refer to current datasheets, performance sheets and safety data sheets in each project.

See EPD documents and Byggvarubedömningen for the underlying documentation.

4. Transport and packaging

We plan deliveries to reduce the number of transports, consolidate shipments where possible and use recyclable packaging where the product and transport safety allow it.

5. Waste and end of life

Offcuts and packaging are sorted according to applicable waste regulations. We advise on dismantling and handling of end-of-life products in projects where this is requested. Material recycling options for thermoset composites are currently limited and depend on local waste infrastructure.

6. Responsibility and continuous improvement

Management is responsible for this environmental policy. We follow up deviations, review supplier choices and continuously improve our working methods in line with the principles of ISO 14001. Byggkomposit is not ISO 14001 certified unless expressly stated otherwise.
