GRP stair treads for stairs, platforms and landings
Byggkomposit supplies GRP stair treads, stair tread covers and stair nosings from Dura Composites — gritted anti-slip surfaces with clear edge marking. Low self-weight, corrosion resistance and a low maintenance requirement for industry, infrastructure and public environments.
Safe stairs for new build and retrofit
Our range of GRP stair treads includes standalone, load-bearing d² Stair Tread and Dura Tread Solid Plate for new build, Dura Tread Cover for refurbishing existing stairs, and separate stair nosings that colour-mark the leading edge of each step for improved visibility.
The products are manufactured in pultruded glass-reinforced polymer with a gritted anti-slip surface and coloured nosing as standard. GRP is corrosion-resistant, electrically non-conductive and has low self-weight — an alternative to steel, concrete and timber in demanding environments.
The treads can be combined with our Dura Grating and Dura Handrail products to form a complete stair and platform solution in GRP.
Stair nosing
Colour-marked leading edge for a clearer stair marking.
Gritted anti-slip surface
Grip in dry and wet conditions; slip requirements are assessed per use.
Low self-weight
Can simplify installation and handling compared with steel and concrete.
Suited to refurbishment
Tread covers fit over existing, sound treads.
Four advantages of Dura Tread
Dura Tread combines pultruded GRP with a gritted anti-slip surface and coloured nosing. The right product is selected based on loading, substrate and environment.
Anti-slip
Stair treads and tread covers have a gritted anti-slip surface that gives grip in dry and wet conditions. Slip requirements should be assessed against the environment. A coloured nosing marks the leading edge of each step and can reduce the risk of missteps.
Load-bearing build
d² Stair Tread and Dura Tread Solid Plate are structural treads specified on loading, span and permissible deflection under applicable standards. Values should be verified against current technical documentation for the project.
Corrosion-resistant
GRP does not rust or rot and normally needs no painting or galvanising. It is used in water and wastewater facilities, offshore and process industry, where steel and timber stairs often wear out sooner.
Suited to refurbishment
Dura Tread Cover fits over existing stone, concrete, steel or timber stairs to improve grip and visibility without demolition. The substrate must be stable and in good enough condition before installation.

Stair treads with a low maintenance requirement
GRP stair treads have low self-weight relative to their strength. They can be handled and installed without welding and retain their gritted anti-slip surface without painting or surface treatment.
Long service life in demanding environments
Glass-reinforced polymer does not corrode in salt water or many chemicals. Chemical resistance should always be verified against the actual medium and project conditions.
From new build to refurbishment
The range includes standalone d² treads, Dura Tread Solid Plate, tread covers for existing stairs and separate nosings — all in the same corrosion-resistant GRP material and compatible with Dura Grating.
