Technical information

GRP — properties and data

An overview of the mechanical, chemical and thermal properties that make glass-reinforced plastic a first choice in demanding environments.

Strength

Tensile and flexural strength comparable to structural steel — at significantly lower weight.

Temperature resistance

Operating range typically -40 °C to +80 °C, with specialty resin up to +140 °C.

Electrically insulating

No galvanic corrosion, ideal for rail and electrical infrastructure.

Fire rating

Available to EN 13501-1, ASTM E84 Class 1 and similar standards.

Chemical resistance

Withstands acids, alkalis, salts and hydrocarbons — select resin by environment.

Dimensions

Standard profiles in metric and imperial sizes, cut to length.

Typical material values

Density1.8 – 1.9 g/cm³
Tensile strength (lengthwise)240 – 400 MPa
E-modulus (lengthwise)17 – 28 GPa
Flexural strength240 – 350 MPa
Compressive strength240 – 320 MPa
Thermal expansion8 – 10 × 10⁻⁶ /K
