Sustainability and environmental data for GRP
Long technical service life
GRP does not corrode and normally needs no painting or surface treatment in use. The technical service life is 60 years. A structure that does not need replacing uses less material over time.
Can GRP be recycled?Less raw material with d²
According to Dura Composites, the patented d² design uses less raw material, giving up to 33 per cent lower embodied carbon than competing GRP products. Since d² was launched in 2019, Dura has saved more than 2.3 million kg of raw material.
d² Dura GratingLower weight and fewer transports
GRP weighs between a third and a half as much as comparable steel grating. That reduces transport emissions and means fewer heavy lifts during installation.
Verified environmental data with EPD
Our suppliers provide EPDs to EN 15804 for pultruded GRP, moulded GRP grating, aluminium profiles and porcelain decking. An EPD is reviewed by an independent third party and can be used in climate declarations and environmental certification.
EPD and environmental documentationByggvarubedömningen
Registration of our GRP products in Byggvarubedömningen is in progress.
ByggvarubedömningenEnd of life
GRP can be mechanically recycled into fibres or powder that become raw material for new composites. Recycling of GRP in Sweden is still developing. Dura Composites has its own process in which end-of-use d² material becomes new composite material at the company's headquarters in the UK.
