Illuminated walkways with Dura TrackGlo
Integrated lighting for safer access routes
Because the lighting is built into the walkway, there is less need for standalone luminaires, bollards and visible cable runs along the route. This creates a clearer walking surface and can simplify installation, cleaning and future maintenance.
The system is particularly suited to rail environments, depots, industrial facilities, energy sites, ports, tunnels and other working areas where staff need to move safely during evenings and nights.
Clearly defined routes
Continuous light marks the direction, edges and level changes of the walkway and makes it easier to orientate in darkness.
Fewer obstructions
Integrated lighting reduces the need for standalone bollards, columns and visible cabling that can restrict the walking surface.
Even lighting
Light is distributed along the whole route, reducing dark areas and harsh contrasts.
Modular solution
The lighting is integrated into the GRP system and can be combined with walking surfaces, handrailing, stairs and support profiles.
For environments that need safe access around the clock
Illuminated GRP walkways can be used as access walkways, trackside routes and approaches to technical installations. The combination of anti-slip GRP grating and integrated lighting provides one coherent solution for both a safe walking surface and improved orientation.
Light levels and technical data
According to Dura Composites, TrackGlo provides a maintained average of at least 10 lux on the walking surface and 50 lux vertically 1 metre above the walking surface for train inspection. The calculations are made to EN 12464-2:2024. The light level on site must always be checked with a lighting calculation for the specific project.
- Colour temperature
- 2,700 K, 3,000 K or 4,000 K
- Colour rendering
- Ra above 90
- Power
- 4.8–9.6 W per metre
- Supply
- 24 V
- Ingress protection
- IP67
- Impact resistance
- IK08
- Lifetime
- 84,000 hours according to the LED manufacturer
TrackGlo can be connected to a backup power supply (UPS) or a battery pack with 3 hours of operation and used as emergency lighting. The design must be checked against EN 1838 for each project.
Clean the light strip with water or a mild cleaning agent. Do not use a pressure washer.
Lighting and workplace safety
The Swedish Work Environment Authority's provisions on workplace design (AFS 2023:12) require lighting that allows people to move around safely and that is of good quality. The provisions do not set fixed lux values. For guidance values, they refer to the standard EN 12464-2 for outdoor work places.
| Area | Guidance value in EN 12464-2:2014 | TrackGlo according to Dura |
|---|---|---|
| Walkways for pedestrians only | 5 lux, uniformity (Uo) 0.25, Ra 20 | 10 lux, Uo at least 0.25, Ra above 90 |
| Walkways within railway areas | 10 lux, Uo 0.25, Ra 20 | 10 lux, Uo at least 0.25, Ra above 90 |
| Escape route during power failure (EN 1838) | at least 1 lux | with backup power (UPS) or a battery pack |
Dura's stated values are at or above the guidance values. The requirements apply to the finished lighting on site, so the lighting is always checked with a lighting calculation for the specific project. On railways, Trafikverket or the client may have their own requirements.
The loads on the walkway are determined to Eurocode 1 (EN 1991-1-1) or, for walkways at machinery, EN ISO 14122-2. See the load tables for d2 Dura Grating.
